Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot

"Dad's on a hunting trip.  And he hasn't been home in a few days."
It took me a really long time to watch Supernatural.  When I was in law school, my best friend and roommate Mary was really into it, and I thought it would be "too scary" for me.  I tried to watch it on Netflix a while later, and had the same reaction - as soon as I saw this nice family in their house in Kansas, I knew it wouldn't end well, and I got nervous, so I shut it off, and didn't pick it up again for at least a year.

And then GISHWHES happened.  Mary convinced me to join their team without me knowing anything about Misha Collins (I thought he was a woman, actually...) and told me she couldn't properly explain her love for Misha Collins to me without making me watch all 8 seasons of Supernatural.  So about a week before GISHWHES started, I gave it another shot and put on the pilot.

And it was scary.  But I kept going.  194 more episodes and Supernatural resonated with me the way no other show ever had.  So now, almost a year later, comes the re-watch.  And for some crazy reason, I've decided to do it as quickly as I can. . . in 31 days.

So . . . the pilot.  Some random comments on this episode second time around:
  • Having scored 15 points less than Sam did on his LSAT, there's no doubt he would have excelled in law school.  But you know. Hunting's good too.
  • Dean was 26.  26!
  • Sam complaining about being called Sammy.  Awww.
  • Dean's voice is so high.  It's so weird.  I always thought that it was obvious how much Sam aged throughout the show but that Dean looked similar throughout the whole thing, but he is seriously a baby in this episode.
  • We got our first jerk/bitch!
  • Sammy is seriously adorable.
  • Sam just crashed the Impala into the house.  And Dean didn't lose his shit on him, he just helped him get out of the car!
  • Oh just kidding, he just told Sam that if he screwed up his car, he'd kill him.  That's the Dean we know and love.
  • Awww, Dean, you and Sam DO make a hell of a team.
  • The Mary/Jessica scenes aren't any easier the second time around.
  • The boys have work to do.  I love it.
  • Blood spatter count: 1
