"Ruby came back for me. Whatever you have to say, she saved me. More than that, she got through to me. What she said to me . . . it's what you would've said. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here."
I have mixed thoughts on Anna . . . I guess because I know what I know know, and I know that she goes all "Glenn Close" in season 5, it's easier to view these early episodes with her differently. But I do like Anna in these early episodes - I appreciate that she was a free thinker, that she was willing to give up her grace because she knew right from wrong, and that even after she got it back she remembered that... even if it made her kinda crazy ;) Anyway.
- Not a lot of recurring female characters on this show, so given the low number altogether, there sure are a high proportion of redheads (Anna, Charlie, Abaddon...)
- It was kinda nice to see the boys hustling pool again
- I think it's funny that in Season 4, Misha Collins was billed behind both GenPad and Robert Wisdom. But then, at the time, he was just supposed to have a short, multi-episode arc, not still be a series regular five seasons later.
- It makes me really sad that the families that end up having tragedies in this show (the Montgomerys in Metamorphosis, the Miltons in this episode) have plaques with their last names hanging up outside their houses - they look like they're nice families, welcoming, and they're the ones that end up getting killed.
- "You're Dean? THE Dean?" I'd probably have the same reaction.
- "First words I heard, clear as a bell: 'Dean Winchester is saved.'" Was that Cas saying that? :)
- Anna says she didn't go home after leaving the psych ward . . . but she has a change of clothing ready to go?
- It's crazy to me that the boys didn't even hesitate before jumping out a second story window. Sure, they got all beat up, and I'm glad the show acknowledged that (particularly given the number of times the boys get SHOT and don't bat an eyelash) but seriously, they were pretty lucky and could have been dead.
- Also why did Alastair not jump after them?
- The first non-Katie Cassidy version of Ruby that Sam met after Dean's death . . . even she seemed more "Ruby" to me than GenPad based on what we'd known of the character from Season 3. Unpopular opinion maybe: having now rewatched all of season 4 (I'm SO behind on my blogging), I just have a really hard time with GenPad's Ruby. It was a different character. And maybe it was deliberate, and she was softened up to try to push Sam towards her endgame, but she was just so tough in Season 3 and so not in Season 4. I know it's hard to step into someone else's shoes, but even just watching the Season 5 premiere after rewatching Nicki Aycox's Meg, Rachel Miner had Meg's mannerisms DOWN... the way she talked, everything - it was believable that it was the same character. I just don't believe that GenPad and Katie Cassidy played the the same character. This isn't to say I don't think GenPad is a good actress and that I didn't like the role she played in Season 4. It just wasn't convincing to me as the Ruby we'd known from Season 3.
- Anyway.
- "Sam?" "Yeah?" "Too much information." "Hey, I told you I was coming clean." "Yeah, but now I feel dirty."
- I loved Ruby possessing the maid.
- "Is the moment over? Good, because it was awkward."
- I think that's the only time in Season 4 we see Ruby's eyes go black.
