Season 2, Episode 22: All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2

"When you were little, couldn't have been more than five, you just started asking questions.  How come we didn't have a mom?  Why did we always have to move around?  Where's Dad?  I remmber I begged you: "Quit asking, Sammy.  You don't want to know."  I just wanted you to be a kid, just for a little while longer.  Always tried to protect you.  Keep you safe.  Dad didn't even have to tell me.  It was always my responsiblity, you know?  It's like I had one job.  I had one job, and I screwed it up.  I blew it, and for that, I'm sorry.  I guess that's what I do.  I let down the people I love.  You know, I let Dad down, and now I guess I'm just supposed to let you down too.  How can I?  How am I supposed to live with that?  What am I supposed to do?  Sammy?  What am I supposed to do?  WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?"
Netflix has the original music for Season 2, and so this episode starts with the familiar "road so far" and Carry On Wayward Son.  And rewatching Dean's tortured "SAM!" scream.  And all the tears.

What I said then:

"Carry On Wayward Son!!!  WOO!!!" #Supernatural #Season2 #Finale
"Something big is going down.  Like end of the world big."  "Well then LET IT END." #Supernatural #Season2Finale"
"That was for our Mom, you son of a bitch." #Supernatural #Season2Finale"
"And that's a season 2 wrap!! #Supernatural"

And now:
  • "You don't think I've given enough?  You don't think I've paid enough?  I'm done with it.  All of it."
  • Watching Dean shoving Bobby around - it's the grief, and Dean knows it too, but it's heartbreaking.  And more tears.
  • The desperation in Dean's drive to the crossroads after his monologue to Sam's body .  As if I wasn't already crying.
  • "I'll give you one year and one year only."  A little anticlimactic watching this for the first time after the show had already aired eight seasons, but still a great way to set up Season 3.
  • Another scene while Dean is chewing through his lines - haha.  I should have kept track of those.
  • Bobby's face when Dean shows up with Sam - "it's good to see you up and around. . ."
  • "You stupid ass!  What did you do?  WHAT DID YOU DO?"  Bobby was so paternal.
  • "I'm not even supposed to be here.  At least this way, something good could come out of it, you know?  I--I--It's like my life could mean something."  Oh Dean.
  • I totally forgot that Ellen was in this episode and that she was there at the cemetery when the devil's gate opened.
  • "Oh my, I'm shocked at this unforeseen turn of events!" I kind of love that Azazel line.
  • It's pretty freaky that Azazel has yellow eyes ALL THE TIME.  The other demons don't always - you don't see the black eyes, or the red eyes, or even Lillith's white eyes, not most of the time, but Azazel is ALWAYS Yellow Eyes.
  • The blood on Sam's face after he shot Jake - creepy.
  • "Thanks to you, Sammy's back in rotation!"  I actually really like Azazel.  I mean, obviously he was awful.  But he was a pretty fantastic antagonist.
  • "You of all people should know that what's dead, should stay dead.  Anyway . . . thanks a bunch.  I knew I kept you alive for some reason.  Until now, anyway.  I couldn't have done it without your pathetic, self-loathing, self-destructive desire to sacrifice yourself for your family."  Bite your tongue, Azazel.  It's honorable.
  • I remember Mary watching this episode when I lived with her - how excited she was when John showed up at the end.
  • And also - there would be no reason for it now, or ever, but I would love to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan back on the show - even if it was just for a flashback.  I love that the boys actually got a (wordless) goodbye with him.
  • "I kinda don't know what to say."  "I do.  That was for our mom, you son of a bitch."
  • Setting up season 3 - one year for Sam's life.  "I had to.  I had to look out for you.  That's my job." "And what do you think my job is?  You've saved my life over and over.  I mean, you sacrifice everything for me.  Don't you think I'd do the same for you?  You're my big brother.  There's nothing I wouldn't do for you.  And I don't care what it takes, I'm gonna get you out of this.  Guess I gotta save your ass for a change."
  • And once again, the boys have work to do.
  • "Son of a bitch" count: 3 (two were from Dean, one was Sam)
