Season 3, Episode 16: No Rest for the Wicked

"Family don't end with blood, boy."
This season finale is brilliant - one of my favorites.  I'd probably rank it third, behind only Sacrifice and Swan Song.

What I said then:

"Oh, YES, writer's strike.  Pretty sure I'm done with Season 3 after this episode. #CarryOnWaywardSon #Supernatural #Season3"

And now:
  • I hate watching this on Netflix now - it totally skipped "The Road So Far" and Carry On Wayward Son.  I was wondering why this episode was only 37 minutes long.
  • Does Jensen Ackles wear contact lenses?  I totally felt like I could see them.
  • I can't believe that Dean punched Ruby in the face.  I'm glad she kicked the crap out of him afterwards.
  • Again - I don't get the endgame here.  I get Ruby wanting to help Sam kill Lilith, but did she know he'd fail?  Because why would she want to stop Dean from dying if he was needed to break the first seal?
  • "All I'm saying . . . Sammy, all I'm saying is that you're my weak spot.  You are.  And I'm yours."  "You don't mean that.  We're . . . we're family."  "I know.  And those evil sons of bitches know it too.  I mean what we'll do for each other, you know, how far we'll go?  They're using it against us."  "So what?  We just stop looking out for each other?"  "No, we stop being martyrs, man."
  • Man, that poor family that Lilith is vacationing with.
  • Lilith coming downstairs with her dress covered in blood saying "Freckles was mean to me," . . . so haunting.  But Lilith as a little girl is also so awesome.
  • "Do I look like a ditchable prom date to you"
  • "If this is my last day on Earth, I do not want it to be socially awkward."
  • "Bon Jovi rocks . . . on occasion."  This scene is amazing with the boys singing.  And sad.  So sad.

  • "You're almost Hell's bitch, so you can see Hell's other bitches."  I LOVE BOBBY"
  • "I don't think I like you anymore."  One of the most terrifying sentences ever.
  • "I couldn't see you before, but you are one ugly broad."  I kind of wish we could actually see the demons real faces.
  • Holy water sprinklers - brilliant.
  • "I'm not gonna let you go to hell, Dean!" "Yes you are!  Yes, you are.  I'm sorry.  I mean this is all my fault, I know that.  But what you're doing, it's not gonna save me.  It's only gonna kill you."  "Then what am I supposed to do?"  "Keep fighting.  Take care of my wheels.  Sam, remember what Dad taught you... okay?  And remember what I taught you."
  • This is so hard to watch.  So. hard. to. watch.
  • Poor Dean getting ripped apart . . . I can't believe the show actually let this happen, but I know that it was necessary that it did.  But so graphic and so ridiculous and so horrifying. And Sam's face.  Sam crying over Dean's body.  There's a reason why I haven't watched this episode since the first time.
  • And Dean in hell screaming for Sam . . . God, I wish I didn't have to wake up at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, because I really need Cas to grip Dean tight, raise him from perdition, and make this all okay.
  • "Son of a bitch" count: 1 (Ruby, not Dean - although Dean does say "sons of bitches")
