"Like it or not, we are not like other people."OK, true story . . . I fell asleep during "Skin" last night. I woke up just in time to see real Dean shoot shapeshifter Dean and thought to myself . . . "whoops." Fortunately, I was able to catch up and watch what I missed while I got ready for work this morning . . . there's no cheating in an SPN speed rewatch.
Knowing what I know now about how the next eight seasons play out, it is weird to watch an episode like "Skin" and be reminded that Sam did have a life outside of hunting, that he made friends in that life, that he would want to help those friends. Equally as weird is seeing Dean long for that kind of life. They were so young and innocent and had no idea what was in store for them, and it hurts that I know.
Random thoughts:
- $2.65 for gas? I don't know if that's St. Louis or 2005 for you, but either way, I'm jealous.
- Longing for a day when mythology was respected and shapeshifters still actually shed their skin . . . as gross as it was.
- Obviously the shapeshifter was just trying to hurt Sam by saying what he did when he was in Dean's form. But the sad part was that he was drawing on Dean's actual feelings and memories. "I know I'm a freak and sooner or later everyone's gonna leave me." It broke my heart. (I'm still bitter that Sam didn't try to find Dean when he was in purgatory, but that's a whole other story).
- It was really hard to watch "Dean" be abusive towards Becky. That's not the Dean Winchester we know and love, and even though it wasn't actually him, it was still hard to watch.
- Thank you writers for the gratuitous Jensen Ackles shirtless scene, even though it immediately turned into gross skin shedding.
- "The thought of him driving my car - it's killing me." Typical Dean worries. :)
- Finally, I need to comment on the Netflix music -- is this a new thing? Because I'm pretty sure when I watched it last summer for the first time, it had the original soundtrack. Either way, major suck. Remind me to start watching the blu-rays when I get to Season 3 because certain scenes simply will not be able to be recreated with a different soundtrack, and I'm sorry for all those people watching SPN for the first time around this summer on Netflix and not getting to appreciate the actual classic music that's such a part of it.
Episodes 7-12 tonight. Bring it.
