Season 5, Episode 1: Sympathy for the Devil

"How are we supposed to do all this, genius?"  "I got no idea.  But what I do have is a GED and a give-'em-hell attitude, and I'll figure it out."
Having now watched all nine seasons to date of Supernatural, Season 5 was -- and remains -- my favorite season.  It didn't seem to fall into the same trap that many of the later seasons have fallen into - there was one overarching theme of the season: to stop Lucifer and the apocalypse.  Every episode worked towards that goal.  I loved everything about this season, have re-watched many of the episodes several times, and thoroughly enjoyed watching it in full a second time around.

Then:

"Cas exploded like a water balloon of chunky soup?  Why do I feel like he's probably not actually gone.  #Supernatural #Season 5"
"Also Zachariah sucks.  And not only because Kurt Fuller was stupid Lindsey from #Alias #Supernatural #Season5"
"'This is wrong,' said Dean.  'Then I don't want to be right,' replied Sam in a husky voice.  #Supernatural #Season5"
"'You got my letters!  And my marzipan!'  'Right.  Yummy.' #Supernatural #Season5"
"'You're sorry you started Armageddon?!' Tough love from Bobby.  #Supernatural #Season5"
"Uh-oh . . . I don't think this is Bobby . . . #Supernatural #Season5"
"Ooh, Zachariah sucks!  But Castiel is AWESOME. #Supernatural #Season5"
"So Jacob from #Lost is Lucifer's vessel.  And Mellie from #Scandal is talking him into it.  All my shows are colliding!  #Supernatural #Season5"
"And also, I aways knew that Mellie was the devil.  #Supernatural #Season5"

Now:
  • Thunderstruck is my favorite AC/DC song and one of my favorite classic rock songs
  • I guess I like the blood title card better than the Season 4 birds - I really hated those birds
  • The look on Dean's face when Chuck tells Sam his eyes went black . . . I could cry.  At least Dean didn't have to see that.  At least Sam didn't know it happened.  With the Comic Con season 10 preview clip going around . . . so many feeling today.
  • "He exploded like a water balloon of chunky soup" - that is the worst possible image!  I was really glad they didn't show it, but then we actually have to see it at the end of the season
  • Jimmy's molar in Chuck's hair - ugh, the worst!
  • Awww, Dean learned Cas's banishing spell
  • I was so excited to see Jacob from Lost in this - I'm sure Mark Pellegrino has done a lot more, but I can never recognize "out of context actors" and he I actually did
  • Becky does not portray the SPN fandom in the best light, but I love her anyway.  The line about the marzipan - cracked me up.  Mostly because I love marzipan, and I love Chuck's slightly concerned "yummy."
  • Becky's website - "morethanbrothers.net" - Oh Becky
  • "You're Sam Winchester and you're . . . not what I pictured."  It always bugs me that Becky knew their last name, when Chuck said that he never wrote it into the books.
  • I also never understood how Bobby let himself get possessed.  You would think that after all he'd been through, after he killed his wife, after Sam had been possessed and the boys got their tattoos - you'd think that he would have been prepared for that and would have had his own anti-possession tattoo.
  • It ALSO bugged me that they really believed that Bobby would lose it on Sam and tell him to "lose his number" - especially after all that Bobby did in Season 4 to help convince Dean to talk to Sam
  • And it's Meg.  First time around, I hated Rachel Miner's Meg - I preferred Nicki Aycox's so much, maybe because she originated the character.  But this time around, I appreciated what Rachel Miner did with it so much more.  Unlike with GenPad taking over Ruby, I really felt like it was the same Meg, just in a different, well, meat suit
  • The blood in the crib at Mark Pellegrino's - horrible.  Lucifer's cruel.
  • And so is Zachariah!!   Giving Dean stomach cancer?  Removing Sam's lungs?  Horrible!
  • Carving the Enochian sigils into Sam and Dean's ribs sounds so ridiculously painful
  • MELLIE IS THE DEVIL!!!!
  • Dean's "what I do have is a GED and a give 'em hell attitude" line is one of my favorite things that he's said in nine seasons.  Also inspired our team's GISHWHES 2014 catchphrase. :)
  • "Son of a bitch" count - 4
