Season 1, Episode 22: Devil's Trap

"You both can't wait to sacrifice yourself for this thing.  But you know what?  I'm gonna be the one to bury you."
Devil's Trap is a really neat episode, and another heartbreaking one.  It's weird to imagine a time when Sam and Dean didn't know what a devil's trap was, or didn't know how to tell that a demon was actually just possessing a human . . . they've come a long, long way.  As far as season finale's go, I would rank it at 8 of the 9 so far, which is saying a lot about the quality of the other season finales.  It was good, but not my favorite.
  • I love Bobby so much, and can't believe it took the show 21 episodes to finally introduce us to him.
  • I loved Bobby's description of a Devil's trap as a "satanic roach hotel."
  • Dean's "gotcha" when Meg stepped into the devil's trap - precious.
  • I'm not quite sure how human Meg survived as long as she did after the exorcism - seemed like she should have been a goner immediately.
  • It will never get old to me how possessive Dean is of the Impala . . . his reaction when Sam was drawing the devils traps on it was typical and awesome
  • Son of a bitch count: 2
  • How'd Sam and Dean know the fire department would respond in exactly seven minutes?  Is that something that is common knowledge?
  • First Supernatural reference to a Yorkie.
  • I love that Dean wanted to be a fireman when he grew up.  That's so hot.
  • Everything about the John possession scene killed me.  The fact that Dean knew immediately that something was wrong, that John wasn't himself, because he said that he was proud of him.  The fact that Sam knew to trust Dean over John when Dean said that it wasn't John.  And then, of course, the dialogue once Yellow Eyes showed his eyes.  "They don't need you," Yellow Eyes told Dean about John and Sam.  "Not like you need them."  Between that and Dean's desperate plea to John "don't let him kill me"as Yellow Eyes ripped him apart with John's body - it was, like I said, heartbreaking. Let's see how many times I use that word during this rewatch.
  • And with a crash, there goes Season 1.  Onwards and upwards.
