"Real is being born this way. Different. 'Real' is having your dad call you 'monster' -- it's the first time you hear the word - and he tries to beat you to death with a shovel. Everywhere I ran, everywhere I tried to hide. People found me, dagged me, called me 'freak', called me 'monster'. Then I found them. The great monsters. In their movies, they were strong. They were feared. They were beautiful. And now I am like them. Commanding. Terrifying.I know a lot of people really like this episode, but even on a second viewing, I was meh on it. I actually fell asleep while watching it on the plane - I had to go back and rewatch another twenty minutes. Whoops.
Anyway. Here's some thoughts.
- The black and white was actually kind of distracting. While I liked it for the old movie scenes, the use of black and white in the rest of the episode just distracted me.
- I did like the old school monster movie-esque opening though.
- And Dean's pun about it being a "straightforward black and white case."
- I appreciated the dialogue about Sam going to see the new Raiders movie without Sam, and the matter of fact way that Sam told him "you were in Hell."
- Sam and Dean's faces when Ed imitated the Dracula were awesome.
- Is it mean of me to say that I just didn't find Jamie to be all that cute?
- OK, I appreciate Dean's comments that he didn't have any old hunting scars after he came back from Hell . . . but what about the giant hand branded into his shoulder???
- The girlfriend of the werewolf victim really didn't seem to care very much that he was killed. The night before. While they were in the car together. What?
- Dean totally pulled off the beer foam mustache.
- Love the way Dean tells Lucy "Yeah! Stay for a drink!"
- Did the Dracula really change Dean out of his suit and put him in that Frankenstein costume?
- On that note, was the shapeshifter actually a guy or a girl?
- The scene with the pizza guy was great. Supernatural does scenes with pizza men pretty well ;)
- "Son of a bitch" count: 2
